The Great Battle

Jesus will put all his enemies under his feet

Jesus has defeated Satan, but not yet fully destroyed him. There are still spiritual powers that oppose God and His Kingdom. Jesus will not rest till He has put them under His feet.

The Bible differentiates between “this age” and “the age to come.” “This age” is the world in which we currently live. During this age, Satan still has some power. When Jesus returns to this earth to judge humanity, He will throw Satan and his servants into the lake of fire and sulfur, where they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Revelation 20:10). These events will mark the beginning of “the age to come.” God will create a new earth without any trace of Satan’s influence: “death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). Then the battle will be finally over. Then God’s children will sing Him praise forever:

“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory” (Revelation 19:6-7)

Accept God’s invitation to let Him reign over your life as well. Only then will you live forever to join this song of worship.

There is a follow-up on this Reading Plan, called “The Battle Is the Lord’s.” This second Reading Plan covers several Bible stories about earthly battles where the Lord was clearly involved. A third Reading Plan, called “Fight the Good Fight of Faith,” is about the personal battle of every Christian against sin and spiritual adversaries. Happy reading!

The Great Battle

The Bible calls God “the God of peace”, but also depicts Him as a rider who will strike down the nations with a sharp sword. If we want to understand this paradox, we need to know the basic background story about the battle between God and Satan. This Reading Plan takes seven days to explain it to you.
