"Going Away From…To Get To"
Imagine being 75 years old living in the country you currently reside amongst your Father, family and relatives and God tells you one day, leave all of that behind and go to the land that I will show you and I will bless you abundantly above what you could ever ask, think or imagine. I would assume most would be apprehensive because one would have to leave their family – known associations and faithfully trust God’s word in order to reap the rewards of faithful obedience. A similar situation happened with Abram but Abram wasn’t apprehensive.
God gave Abram specific instructions to leave familiar associations to go to a land God would show him. When Abram obediently took the steps to follow God’s command, God made a promise to Abram that He would make him a great nation, bless him abundantly, make his name great and nations would be blessed through him. But in order to receive the promises Abram would have to leave what he currently associated with.
Abram did what God commanded of him, although Lot his nephew went with him. When God tells us to make moves that we can’t comprehend we must faithfully trust him even if we have a routine and are comfortable with our current conditions. Although Abram was 75 years old, according to God it was time for him to go away…to get to his ordained blessings. God had a dynamic plan for Abram’s life but he had to walk away from the associations God commanded him to walk away from.
This shouldn’t be interpreted as something negative, but something that God required for Abram to do and at times requires us to do. We must trust God’s plan. I believe God commanded Abram to leave his known associations in order to increase him. What associations has God told you to go away from so that He can show you where He is taking you? What regressive habits are present in your life that are currently prohibiting your progress? What blessings has God promised you when you walk in faithful obedience to him? Will you focus on what is comfortable and your abilities or will you trust God and his great plan for your life? It’s time to connect with God’s divine plan and evaluate our associations.
