Day 1: God's Story
Creation, Fall, Rescue and Restoration.
All of us depend upon some sort of story to make sense of life. The story we choose becomes the filter by which we sort out every joy and sorrow. It's the framework that puts life into perspective for us. It's where we find answers to life's deepest questions:
- How did it all begin?
- What went wrong?
- Is there any hope?
- What will the future hold?
The story you live from is crucial. It needs to answer your questions and give a lasting sense of purpose and meaning. Such a story is hard to find.
But there is one.
It's the Story that inspires all others, one that defines us all. And it's more than just a tale, because it is the one true Story that began long before we were here and will continue forever. It's the eternal story—God's Story, found in the Bible. Although the Bible is a vast collection of stories and events that occurred over many centuries, it is actually telling one big Story, of which God is both the Author and the main character.
As Creator, God made all that exists—the universe, our world, every creature (Genesis 1:1).
As Redeemer, He is reconciling all things to Himself (Colossians 1:20), which includes personal salvation for us as well as redemption for His entire creation. God's Story governs the world.
Like all stories, God's Story follows a plot line. It starts with the perfection of Creation then moves to the sorrow of the Fall, the hope of Rescue in Jesus, and the joy of Restoration. Every book, chapter, and verse in the Bible point to Jesus (Luke 24:27) as our only hope.
Tomorrow we'll will explore the first chapter of God's Story, answering the question, how did it all begin?
