We know that the disciples had witnessed many miracles by Jesus, yet they were still filled with fear in this particular storm. We also know that at least four of these young men were experienced sailors and certainly had encountered blasts of wind and rain in their lives; however they were alarmed because they were unaware that Jesus was able to control even this situation in their lives. 

This is a powerful reminder for all of us who find ourselves in agitated circumstances that Jesus is willing to help us if we will just ask Him. We should never underestimate His power and grace, even during the most unstable days in life. You may believe (falsely) that your life is about to be swept overboard by the danger and cruelty of an unexpected storm. Rather than embrace fear, cry out to God and ask Him to save you! 

When you call on Jesus in the middle of your raging monsoon, He will indeed come to your rescue simply because He cares about you. How He loves to hear the voice of a waterlogged sailor crying out to Him for help! He was asleep in this storm-tossed boat because He was at peace; it wasn’t because He didn’t care about His disciples. All these nautical geniuses had to do was call on the name of the Lord—and that is all you have to do as well. 

When you find yourself in the middle of a vicious, cruel storm, remind yourself that Jesus is at peace. He is not surprised by the tempest that threatens to drown you. He is in full control of the wild blast even while you are in the middle of it. If Jesus is at rest, then you should be too; if Jesus can sleep through storms, then you should be able to as well. Your deepest calling in life is to be like Jesus—even in the midst of adverse and tormenting conditions. 

Jesus is upholding your life “by the word of His power”! Don’t make the same mistake the disciples made and doubt in the storm what you believed in the sunshine. In the will of God for your life, there is no situation and there is no storm where His presence cannot be accessed and where His words will not make a remarkable difference!
