Happiness

Psalms 16:11 "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

Is it possible to truly be happy? It’s a question I’ve been asked a million times. Is it possible to be happy, or do happy people just fake it really well?

We’re all living in a mirage that we’d be happy if we finally got the one thing we long for. If you’re single, that could be marriage. If you’re married, it might mean the perfect kids. If you’re a professional, a promotion might be your dream. But I ask you again, is it possible to truly be happy?

In Psalm 16:11 David wrote this: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy. . . .” David understood that the secret to happiness is not rooted in our circumstances but in the reality of God’s presence. The secret to lasting happiness is to make our dwelling place in the shelter of the Most High God. It's easy to give in to negativity and get stuck in the trap of discontentment or the pit of self-pity and despair, but true happiness recognizes that there is joy for the taking, and it's only found when we fix our eyes on Jesus. His presence is better than all the pleasures this world promises and does not fulfill.

So yes, it is possible to truly be happy, but it only happens when you make God’s presence your home.

Questions:

What’s the one thing you think you still need to be happy? What practical steps can you take to experience more of God’s presence in your life?
