14 Days To Live預覽
Jesus is greater than any father
Devotional
In John 14 we see Jesus making statements and claims about Himself, God the Father and the world. For centuries people like you have read claims about belief, faith, God, peace, salvation and eternity. It is doubtful that anyone has ever discounted the claims of Jesus because He promised too little! The promises of Jesus trouble us because Jesus is the only One great enough to fulfill the promises He makes.
The famed British scholar and believer of last century, C.S. Lewis, required this response of the claims and promises of Jesus, “You must make your choice. Either this man [Jesus] was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.”
You may also approach the promises of Jesus in a more intimate way. Imagine – though difficult in our modern society – that you knew you were going to be killed and your time remaining on earth was short. Not only is your life about to end, the way it is going to end is brutal, violent, humiliating, excruciatingly painful and will be drawn out as long as possible. This pending death you are about to endure promises unparalleled physical pain and supernatural spiritual anguish. Bring all of these thoughts and imaginations to the forefront of your mind. Capture those thoughts and you have a glimpse into what Jesus was consciously aware of as He made these statements in John 14:
- “Do not let your hearts be troubled” (v. 1)
- “I am going to prepare a place for you … I will come back for you” (v. 2-3)
- “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (v. 6)
- “Believe me when I say that I am the Father” (v. 11)
- “I will not leave you” (v. 18)
In the face of unspeakable physical, emotional and spiritual torment Jesus was focused on you. All of the promises made to us by Jesus have likely been made before, and broken, by someone in our life. Unlike anyone, Jesus can keep all He promised because in Him we find all that He promised: peace, joy and faith.
The burden Jesus carries to the cross is our freedom. You need not carry it further.
Pray
Thank you Jesus for being the only way to eternal life. Please help me live by Your ways through the power of the Holy Spirit. Please use my life for You to point others to You – the only way.
