A Generous Life - Live It Out
John Herbert
Living a generous life is all about living beyond ourselves.
I’m always amazed that God tends to use us to touch someone else at the most inconvenient of times. In John 4 we read the account of Jesus touching the life of a Samaritan women. Interesting that Jesus was tired, hungry and it was the hottest part of the day (vs 6).
I don’t know about you but just tired and hungry is enough take me out of the game. That’s without the effects of the hot sun in a dessert region at the hottest time of day. Yet, Jesus knew that God had sent him on a detour via Samaria. Most of our detours usually lead us to someone that God needs us to help, or someone who needs something that only you can give.
He didn’t know who he was going to meet but he knew that God was sending him to that specific place. Often the Holy Spirit will speak to you to go to a certain place, because he knows when you go to that place you will meet a particular person that he would like to touch and save.
A generous person is always willing to go the second mile (Matthew 5:41). They are willing to be inconvenienced so that someone else can be blessed.
To truly reach our world requires a generous life and a daily awareness of God and who God is sending us to.
Prayer Focus:
- God show me who you are sending me to today
- Help me to understand that my inconvenience could be someone else’s blessing
