And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures

This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.” (Acts 2:32)

Death is final. We all know that someone who has died does not come back to life. And yet, the Bible tells us something different. Jesus did rise. Hundreds of people saw that with their own eyes.

Tertullian, a Christian author who lived around 200 AD, wrote about this:

“The Son of God died; this is utterly credible because it is unfitting; and He was buried and rose again; this is certain because it is impossible.”

In other words: Jesus' death and resurrection are so unimaginable that no one would make it up. It is precisely the incredibility that makes it believable.

The fact of Jesus' resurrection is just as crucial as His being God and His death in our place. The fact that Jesus rose proves His power over death. He assures us, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” (Revelation 1:17-18)

Jesus' resurrection also gives credence to His promise that all who believe in Him will receive eternal life. Death has been conquered by Jesus. Therefore, it no longer has power over His followers.

Do you consider the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead some 2,000 years ago to be relevant to your life now? Which difference does it make for you?

At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
