Ancient antiseptic
Alcohol is a natural antiseptic that kills germs. That’s why the good Samaritan used wine to clean the wounds of the injured man. Olive oil and honey also have natural properties that kill germs and heal wounds.
Activity
Jews despised Samaritans. They thought they were a mixed race of evil people. But they respected priests as men of God. Jesus’ story deliberately turned these expectations upside down. The villains are the priest and Levite. They refused to stop and help this poor man. The hero is the so-called ‘evil’ Samaritan, whose heart was kind and loving. He was the only ‘good’ person in this story. Try writing a modern version of this tale. Who would be the hero and villain if Jesus were telling this parable today?
