Sustenance (S3-E8)

A cryptic title for today…

Let’s start with a quote: “It’s enough for Me, I can do a lot with it.”

We find ourselves in the middle of one of Jesus’ great teachings. Jesus is sharing, and explaining, and the people are listening intently. You can almost imagine the scene: conversations among the crowd, questions being asked here and there, and Jesus patiently providing answers.

In verse 34, the word“long” is used. This story unfolds over a considerable time before we reach verse 38.

After all that listening and learning, hunger sets in. This isn’t just a small gathering—it’s a massive crowd, with over 5,000 people. Naturally, the disciples are concerned about food. But here’s the problem: there’s no food.

Well—nothing substantial. No food trucks. No delivery apps. No catering services. Just the lunch of a little boy sitting among the crowd: five loaves and two fish. One loaf per 1,000 people, and the fish? You can do the math. It’s far from enough. No advanced calculations are needed to see that.

And then Jesus says: “It’s enough for Me, I can do a lot with it.”

Wow.

Whether He said it in exactly those words or not, you see it happen: Jesus takes the bread, breaks it, and in His hands, it becomes more than enough. The five loaves and two fish in Jesus’ hands become infinite. What remains at the end is more than what was there at the beginning—abundance, multiplied through Jesus.

It contains a simple lesson for us today. Maybe you wonder: “What do I have to offer?” Or, “Does what I bring really matter?”

These are valid questions, especially when you consider the challenges around you. But here’s the invitation: take what you have and place it in Jesus’ hands.

In His hands, five loaves and two fish were enough to feed thousands. Amazing, isn’t it? What seems small in your eyes can become a great blessing when entrusted to Him.

Do you dare to do that?

It might not be easy. Imagine how the little boy felt as he gave up his lunch. He could have quietly eaten it himself and filled his own stomach. But he didn’t.

Now think about the joy he must have felt when he saw the entire crowd being fed because of what he gave.

Joy.
Abundance.
God’s Kingdom.

What you have may seem insignificant, but in the hands of Jesus, it can make an infinite difference. Will you trust Him with what you have?

Here are some questions to reflect on:

  • What have you received from the Lord?
  • Have you already given it back to Him?
  • What invitation do you feel through this message?

Prayer: “Lord Jesus, thank You for what You have given me. Help me today not to keep it for myself. I want to give it back to You and pray for it to be multiplied. To make it a blessing for those around me. I want to give, share, surrender, and trust that it is in good hands with You. Amen.”
