Week 1: Worship as Music

Why Worship?

Throughout this month, we will be talking about increasing in worship. In Psalm 100, the word “worship” is the Hebrew word ʿāḇaḏ, which means “to work or serve.” Worshipping God is a way of serving Him. Even if you don’t serve on your church’s worship team, as a believer in Jesus, you are still called to serve God through worship!

But why do we worship God? Let’s look at Psalm 100 to outline a few key points:

  1. We acknowledge that the Lord is God. We worship God first and foremost because He is God, the Creator of the universe. He is an awesome God, and He is worthy of our worship!
  2. We are His people. God is not only the Creator of the universe but also our heavenly Father. He is great and awesome but also close and personal. Worshipping God is a way to express our love for Him.
  3. We enter His presence through gratitude and praise. It’s impossible to enter into the presence of God without worship. I’m not talking about music here; I’m talking about a heart of worship dedicated to serving God and praising Him.
  4. His love is unfailing, and His faithfulness endures forever. Again, God is worthy of our worship. His love and faithfulness have no end. That’s a reason to praise!

There are many other reasons we worship, but these are the ones we’ll start with today. Now that we know why we worship, discussing how we worship is essential. This week, we will highlight how we worship God through music. Over the coming weeks, we’ll also cover topics like how to worship God humbly, our lifestyles of worship, and more.

As we begin our journey to increase in worship this month, remember: You were created to worship!
