A Song of Praise to Come

Have you ever heard a song that just won’t leave you alone? A song that goes into the depths of your soul and you can’t get out of your mind? The kind of song that can take you back to what was going on when you first heard it, maybe reminding you of the struggles you were facing or what God did to bring you through.

Have you ever wanted to write a timeless song that would be on somebody else’s lips, deepening their relationship with the Lord?

Today, you can be a songwriter like David. The beautiful thing about composing your song is that it is unique to you.

Psalm 65 is a song of praise meant to be sung. It starts by saying, “Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion; and to you the vow shall be performed.”

The word await in Hebrew can be translated in different ways. It can be rendered as a “silent wait.” In Romans, Paul wrote that the whole creation is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.

The Hebrew word can also be translated as “anticipated,” as when the audience of a symphony is waiting for the conductor to signal the orchestra to start playing. The audience is anticipating the magnificence of what is going to come.

Finally, the Hebrew word can be translated as “waiting for something that doesn’t exist at the time.” This could be praise that is waiting to come forth because the reason to give praise has not yet happened.

We can praise God today for what is yet to come because of what He has already done. We can praise God because He is the Creator, He listens to us, and He has overcome our fears. In Christ, He has provided atonement, conquered death and sin, and done away with the things that kept us apart from Him.

This psalm is a song of praise to the conqueror King who has overcome sin and everything that keeps us from an intimate relationship with Him.

What is your song about? What has God conquered for you personally? Hopelessness? Sin? Doubt? Pain? Addiction? Difficult financial situations? Lust? Begin to write it down. This is your song, and it is unique to you.

Lord, You have done mighty works on our behalf. You are worthy of all our praise, both today and in the future, when You will surprise us once more with Your goodness.
