3 Individuals Who Received and Followed God's Vision Part 3: Abraham

Out of all the people on Earth, God chose Abraham to become the father of the nation of Israel. At first, Abraham had no vision for his future. He believed his legacy would end with him, as he and his wife Sarah had no children. But God had other plans. God gave Abraham a vision that far surpassed anything he could have imagined.

"The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.'" — Genesis 12:1-2

Even though Abraham couldn’t see how God’s promise would be fulfilled — especially since he had no children — God’s vision was clear. He promised Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars and a legacy that would impact generations to come.

Application: It’s amazing how God gave Abraham a vision of becoming the father of a nation when, in the natural, he couldn’t even have a child. Perhaps you feel the same — like your legacy won’t go far or that God’s promises seem impossible to achieve. But just as God did with Abraham, His vision for you can unfold in ways you can't imagine if you choose to step out in radical obedience.

Abraham’s obedience to leave everything behind opened the door to God’s vision for his life. He didn’t know how God would fulfill the promise, but he trusted and followed. In time, God gave him the promised child, Isaac, and through him, multitudes of people came. Today, humanity still refers to Abraham as the "father of many nations." This is the God we serve — a God who can take the impossible and make it a reality.

"Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him." — 1 Corinthians 2:9
