Fast Food Faith

To live más means to surrender, to devote yourself, and to grow in your relationship with Jesus. This week we were reminded of the bondage of sin and the good news of being set free from that sin because of Jesus’s death and resurrection. We also studied what happens when we become too comfortable in life. We are meant to live a life set apart from the world, which is not easy or comfortable. To be crucified with Christ and to take up our cross daily means that we are meant to be uncomfortable a lot of the time. Crucifixion is death and like we read on day 5, we are called to be crucified with Christ which means that we must die to ourselves and in turn live for Christ. What Jesus did on the cross brings transformation to our lives and transforming means growth. Growth is uncomfortable, just think back to the time when you hit a growth spurt and how much that hurt. In our culture today, when we are confronted with pain and being uncomfortable, we are encouraged to give up or to face the challenges but taking the credit and glory. Neither of these are good options if you’re leading a life in relationship with Jesus. While we should not give up, the only reason we can persevere is because of Jesus. When it comes to following Jesus, in order to grow we are going to go through seasons of pain and hurt.

In those seasons we can have joy because we have been given freedom through and by Jesus. We are no longer captive to sin and death, we have eternal life and hope that the trials and tough seasons of this life are not going to last forever. Ultimately, because of the sacrifice that God so freely gave, we have the opportunity and privilege to live more. Yes, being uncomfortable and growing is a privilege because it means that we get to have a personal relationship with the creator of the world at no cost to us besides faith and surrender. We did not deserve the sacrifice that Jesus paid for us, we deserved to die for our sins but God loves us enough to offer our debt of sin to be paid.

As we close this Fast Food Faith study, reflect on how those around you and how social media are influencing your life. Think about how to be set apart from this world, look at what you do on a daily basis and ask yourself if it is helping or harming your relationship with God. Isn’t it great that we have a God so full of grace? Praise God for who He is today and what He has done for us by sending His son, Jesus.

Fast Food Faith

Why does America like fast food? Because it’s quick, convenient, and tastes amazing. But when we view our faith through that lens, we become spiritually out of shape consumers who end up living a faith dependent on speed, convenience, and hyper-palatability. But God’s desire for us in life is to slow down and live lives of intentional discipleship; to develop lasting faith in a fast culture.
