Day 6: Living the Gospel
Paul gets super practical in Romans 12-13. It’s all about living out the gospel in our everyday lives.
After laying down the theological framework in the earlier chapters, Paul shifts gears here. Romans 12 is the “so what?” of the gospel. It’s where doctrine turns into daily practice. Being a “living sacrifice” isn’t flowery religious talk; it’s gritty, everyday discipleship. It’s a call to lay down your preferences, your comfort, and even your rights for the sake of others. And loving genuinely? That’s not just about being nice or sweet; it’s about sincerity—no faking, no ulterior motives. Paul basically says, “You want to follow Jesus? Then show up for people with authenticity and purpose.”
Now let’s talk about using your gifts. This isn’t a side hustle; it’s central to living out your faith. Every believer has been given gifts, and those gifts aren’t for self-promotion but for building up others. Whether you’re leading, encouraging, serving, or teaching, the goal is to contribute to the unity and growth of others. If you’re sitting on your hands, you’re not just missing out, you’re holding back what God’s given to you for the benefit of others.
The idea is this: if you're loving one another, especially through a holy and godly love, you are going to fulfill the law entirely. We are called to participate in culture in an orderly, God-honoring way so that we can redeem and redefine culture in a God-honoring way.
Prayer: Father, help me to live out the gospel. Teach me to use my gifts for others and to reflect Your love and honor in all my interactions. Amen.
