Matthew 26:26-29 — The Significance of Jesus’ Last Supper (Lord's Supper)

Reflection
In this passage, Jesus is having a meal with His disciples. He takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them, saying, “This is my body.” He then takes a cup of wine, gives thanks, and tells them, “This is my blood, which makes the new agreement between God and people. It is poured out to forgive sins.” Jesus also says He will not drink wine again until He drinks it new with them in God’s Kingdom.

Jesus used simple elements—bread and wine, to convey profound truths about His sacrifice. The bread represents His body, which would be broken for humanity. The wine represents His blood, which would be poured out for the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus said He would not drink wine again until He drinks it with His followers in God's Kingdom. This statement points to a time in the future when Jesus will celebrate with His followers in Heaven. The future celebration is a time to celebrate the redemption and forgiveness that Jesus’ sacrifice brings. It’s a reminder of the complete restoration and joy we will experience because of His work.
