Selah Day: Consecrate Yourself to God
In this devotional, we have decided to have several 'selah' rest days throughout. This is a prayer devotional, so we want you to stop and pray on these days specifically in the position of resting in God and meditating on his power, authority, and wisdom. Sometimes when we think of “courageous prayer” we think of tenacity, of pushing through, but that is only part of the story. Courageous prayer is a prayer made from a position of rest in God’s wisdom, his strength, and the revelation that he is all-powerful, not us.
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
- Ephesians 6:10
On these days of 'selah', we are going to pause and pray through God’s word. We will give you a psalm and truth to stand steadfast in. Rest is important; these are the days when the army resets and regroups in God. The most important thing about courageous prayer is being refreshed in God, we can do that by praying through a Psalm that establishes a strong vision of who God is. This allows us to rest and regroup so we are not just surviving, but thriving.
Today we are going to pray through Psalm 139. Let us show how to pray through a psalm. The goal is to use the psalm as the foundation to launch off to further prayer. Here is how it works:
Read aloud:
Psalm 139:1-6 - You have searched me, Lord and you know me..
Then pray:
Lord, I thank you that you have searched my heart and you know me, I pray that you continue to search my heart. As I consecrate myself in the time of prayer, I pray that you will know me completely..
Read aloud:
Psalm 7-12 - Where can I go from your Spirit?..
Then pray:
I thank you that your Holy Spirit walks with me as I pray. I pray that I would that I will walk in your light..
And then keep going for however long you have time to pray. Allow God to encourage you through the Psalm that he is with you, he knows you intimately and he will never leave you. Establish this truth, so that you pray from this position of intimacy, consecration, and relationship with God.
Prayer for today
Lord, I thank you that you have searched my heart and that you know me, I thank you that today I consecrate myself afresh to you and choose to purposely walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the truth that you have placed in my heart through reading Psalm 139.
