God’s View on Competition: Part V
We recently have been researching moving into a new market. So, I reached out to another faith-at-work ministry in that community to discuss collaborating rather than competing.
One of their leaders began offering ideas on how they might partner with us. The true sign of his heart, however, was when he offered to introduce us to their biggest donor and encourage them to support our efforts as well!
Proverbs 25:21 teaches, “If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.”
You will be hard pressed to find instances where God promotes any type of retaliation. Maintaining a good attitude and honorable actions towards those who commit offences against you will serve you better in the long run than lashing out. Your reputation and character will be protected and those worth your time will notice.
It may be unconventional, but instead of having a scarcity mindset with your competitors, consider ways you might help them. You will be more successful when you work together and will build goodwill between you and your competitors and with your customers.
Questions For Reflection
- How have you been helped to make it to where you are today? How can you help others in your field? What tips or tricks have you acquired that would increase an entrepreneur's chances?
- Why is generosity with knowledge important? How would your field be improved by assisting your competitors? How would the kingdom of God be furthered?
