Biblical Character: Rebekah

Scripture Readings: Genesis 24:1-28; 61-67

Discussion Questions:

  • What do we know about Abraham’s servant? What does this tell you about him?
  • What did Abraham make him swear to do?
  • Who did Abraham tell him would guide his mission to get a wife for Isaac?
  • What did Abraham’s servant do when he came to the well? What does this tell you about the servant’s view of God?
  • What did he specifically ask God for the woman to do?
  • What kind of woman was he asking God to bring Isaac?
  • Do you think because he had been a servant for a long time that he would recognize those character traits and know they were important?
  • What character traits would a coach be looking for in their players? How can you cultivate those traits in your life?
  • What happened before the servant finished speaking? What does this tell you about God and prayer?
  • Describe Rebekah. According to verses 17-20, was she eager or reluctant to serve?
  • What words are used to describe how she served Abraham’s servant?
  • When people observe your life, what words are used to describe you as an athlete, student, friend, woman? What does this tell you about how we should serve others?
  • How could you actively serve your teammates in the same way?
  • Who should we serve in this way?
  • Read Proverbs 11:16 and Proverbs 11:22. Compare and Explain.
  • What did the servant do after his camels had finished drinking?
  • Who did he acknowledge for his success in finding Isaac a wife?
  • What does the servant tell Isaac? How does Isaac respond to his new wife?
  • What does this story tell you about God and His relationship with man?
  • What is one thing I learned from this story that I can apply to my life before the next lesson?
