The Name of God
Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for You. PSALM 9:10 NLT
What does it mean to know someone's name? It certainly suggests a closeness and familiarity. It implies relationship and connection. Do you know God’s name? Does it feel familiar in your mouth? Does it stem from a relationship and knowledge of Him? It may not feel this way, and that’s okay! Each morning is a new opportunity to call on His name, invite Him into your day, and watch as He walks with you. Maybe you are familiar with His name. Maybe it feels sweet and familiar in your mouth. Perhaps it makes your racing heart relax and your anxious mind be still. The name of God has power and influence. It is not empty. Today call on God’s name. He will not abandon you. His name will not return empty!
God, Jesus, Sustainer, Creator, Friend, Father. Lord, these are just a few of Your names. Today please give me the confidence to speak Your name and trust in You fully. Let Your name be a reminder of Your deep love, Your unfailing grace, Your mercies that are new each morning. When I speak Your name, help me acknowledge and feel its power. Your name has the ability to calm, to move, to comfort, to sustain. Help me remember that I am not alone. I can call on Your name in moments of distress, pain, suffering, and fear. I can call on Your name when I feel overwhelmed or anxious. I can call on Your name when I feel alone. Help me grow familiar and comfortable with Your name. I love You. Amen.
