The Adventure:

Do you have a favorite restaurant? Mine is Moe’s. If I had to guess you may have said Chick-fil-A. Whatever the answer is imagine that you were in charge of running that restaurant. Not just the one by your house but the one on the way to Grandma's, and the one on the way to the beach, and every single one. That’s a big job! But let’s say the old boss before he left said you could ask for one piece of advice. What would you ask for?

Something like this happened to Solomon. Solomon is one of David’s sons who became king over Israel, God’s people. God appeared to Solomon and said you can ask for anything and Solomon asked for wisdom. Maybe you would’ve asked for lots of gold, or a giant sword, or someone else to do your job. But Solomon asked for wisdom which is knowing the difference between right and wrong. Doesn’t wisdom sound incredible? When you ask yourself if punching your brother will get you in trouble wisdom would say, “Yes!”

The issue here is that wisdom only shows you right from wrong. We still have to choose what’s right. I don’t know about you but a lot of the time I know what I am about to do is wrong. Maybe I try to ignore that feeling because I want to do the wrong thing. Doing the wrong thing, and disobedience of what God tells you is called sin. Solomon had the wisdom to know what was sin and what was not. But Solomon still did not always choose the right option. Thankfully, we can ask God for wisdom at any time and we have the Bible that tells us right from wrong but a lot of the time we know what’s wrong and still do it. Solomon challenges us to ask for wisdom but then actually do the wise and right thing.

The Destination:

Jesus knew right from wrong. The big difference is that Jesus always chose what was right. He obeyed God in everything. Jesus was and is perfect. He chose the right thing always including when it was hard. He chose to die for our sins so we may live a life full of hope and joy in God. Even though we can’t be perfect like Jesus we can do the wisest thing ever and follow Jesus. Some of the most famous people in the Christmas story are the wise men. And they were wise because they followed Jesus! We can be wise this Christmas and choose to follow Jesus.
