The Rock on Which It Is Built (S1-E4)預覽
I don’t need a Lamb - I need …
Do you need salvation?
Do you need a Lamb?
In this section, we read that John sees it immediately: Behold the Lamb of God!
In the video clip we see Peter say, "I don't need a Lamb, I need fish."
How often do you think: I don't need a Lamb, I need .... . I need … fish?
Peter doesn't think he needs Jesus. He needs a short-term solution to the problems he and his family are in the middle of, and he thinks fish is the solution.
I think we can understand Peter quite well. Sometimes there are complicated situations in our lives, self-inflicted or otherwise, that cry out for a solution.
Jesus knows what is needed. He makes Peter cast his nets once again. To bring in a huge catch and to receive freedom himself.
The Lamb, Jesus, wants to be the solution to the struggles you are facing. Yesterday we briefly touched on the theme of freedom. Freedom that can be found with Jesus, the Lamb.
When He dies on the cross and says, "It is finished," His work of redemption on earth is finished. But then He bows His head. He dies and is in the tomb for three more days. And with Him rising from the dead, not only is the work of redemption finished, but also death is undone – Jesus lives!
For both Mary and the disciples, it was a joy to see Jesus again. Yet it was still necessary for Jesus to go back to His Father. So that He could send us the Helper. The Holy Spirit, who, thanks to the slaughtered Lamb Jesus, came to show you the way to freedom. Freedom we probably all long for. Freedom that helps us move forward in following Jesus.
It is so valuable when we realize that we really need The Lamb of God.
Because isn't it wonderful to live in freedom?
Questions to think about:
- What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Lamb of God?
- At what times do you say, "I don't need a Lamb?"
- Are there areas in your life where you may stand (more) in freedom?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You are the Lamb of God for me too. Teach me to realize more and more that I need You! So that I can experience more and more of that freedom that only You can give. Amen.
