BEHOLDING GOD
In the midst of our fast-paced, distracting, and divided world, it is easy to overlook the profound beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Yet if we take a moment to pause and reset our gaze, we find ourselves captivated by the One behind the Beauty—the One our hearts truly long for. At the pinnacle of prayer lies the art of beholding God. Beholding takes various forms, but its essence lies in surrendering our efforts to grasp God so that we may be grasped by Him.
To behold is to be held by God. It is to embrace the faith and trust that allow us to see the nature of God with fresh eyes, releasing the desire to control His otherness. As the apostle Paul teaches, through beholding, we can become like the Lord through the work of His Spirit. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we encounter individuals whose lives were forever changed by catching glimpses of God's glory, however beholding God's glory is not confined only to extraordinary experiences. It can occur in the quiet moments of our daily lives — when we meditate on Scripture, spend time in prayer, marvel at a beautiful sunset, dwell in the eyes of a loved one, or simply observe the intricacies of a flower. Through intentional practice, we open ourselves to profound and transformative experiences that leave us awestruck with wonder.
The truth is, we don’t see the world as it is - we see it as we are. When our eyes are full of light, the world has a way of looking brighter.
Today, let’s make space in our lives for beholding the Divine, allowing ourselves to be captivated by the One who beckons us into a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.
