Christ, Our Greater Jonah: A Gospel View of Facing Our Storms of Life

Day 1 Devotional

Storms

In this fallen world, it is inevitable that we will face many storms in our lives. And it is true that these storms can be very intense.

But, no matter how intense those storms may be, the gospel reminds us in Jonah 1:1-17 and Mark 4:1 & 35-41 that the identity of Jesus Christ as our greater Jonah and Messiah who, on the cross, faced the ultimate storm of God’s wrath over our sin means that He will certainly not abandon us in our storms of life.

We have the gospel assurance that because Christ faced the ultimate storm of God’s wrath over our sin on the cross, He will exercise His complete control over our storms and rescue us, as He did for the disciples in Mark 4.

Jonah 1:1-17 is about Jonah being thrown into a storm. Mark 4:1 & 35-41 is about Jesus calming a life-threatening storm on the Sea of Galilee to save His disciples.

Over the course of this 5-Day Plan, from Jonah 1:1-17 and Mark 4:1 & 35-41, we’ll explore how these two passages give us a gospel view of first, the inevitability of our storms of life, second, the intensity of these storms, and third, how the identity of Jesus Christ enables us to successfully face these storms of life.
