Launch Into Leadership

Noah was rewarded for his own morality. God saw his heart and not only spared Noah’s life but acknowledged Noah for living a righteous life.

I can guarantee that this acknowledgment was better than any promotion or bonus that anyone has ever been gifted!

But not all leaders start out with a clean slate. Leaders aren’t perfect, we make mistakes. In fact, we make a lot of them. Leaders, however, do not dwell on their mistakes because they know that God makes them whole and loves them regardless.

Peter is perhaps the most well-known disciple of Jesus.

Peter was many things:

Bold.

Brash.

Impulsive.

Aggressive.

He was the man who cut off the ear of another during the arrest of Jesus, only to later deny Jesus three times. He was a complex and polarizing figure, and the denial of his teacher, closest friend, and savior is one of the worst acts of betrayal in the Bible.

Afterward, Peter was ashamed. He cried, mourning his friend. Peter loved Jesus, yet had forsaken him just as Jesus had foretold.

Yet, just a few days later, Peter gives a sermon to thousands after Jesus ascends to heaven, during which the Bible tells us that 3,000 souls are saved.

He goes on to become the head of the Apostles and the first to perform a miracle. Peter takes his moment of fear and weakness, and he uses it as motivation to continue to spread the word of God and the life, death, and resurrection of his friend, mentor, instructor, and savior, Jesus Christ.

Peter could have wallowed in his shame and sorrow for the rest of his life. He could have let his shame be the legacy that he left behind.

Instead, he picked himself up and went on to do great things.

Leaders don’t have to be perfect. As leaders, we will experience failure. We will let down ourselves and our team at times. Truly great leaders, however, don’t let the failures of today keep them from the successes of tomorrow. They understand that they are not marked by their greatest moment of failure but by their ability to get back up with the same enthusiasm as before.

Peter could have been remembered as the one who denied Jesus.

Instead, he is remembered as a saint.
