Expecting the One With Many Names預覽
CALLED TO SERVE
When we think of names for Jesus, our King, it is hard to associate His name as ‘Servant,’ yet He was both. He was born in a smelly stable with animals looking on. He was born lowly. All His days on earth, He served people, and one day this Servant Jesus will rule as King over all nations! In Jesus' day, people traveled mainly by foot and wore sandals. Imagine how dirty their feet had to have been, yet Jesus insisted on washing His disciples' feet. He did this as a great example that serving others is a great way to remain humble and keeps pride at bay.
“Behold my ‘servant,’ whom I uphold; mine elect,in whommy soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.” Isaiah42:1
“So, when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, forsoI am. If I then, yourLord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a ‘servant’ is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” John 13:12-17
LET US PAUSE:
I have been involved in foot washing services, which is a very sacred moment. Today, offer to wash the feet of a loved one; if they refuse, perhaps wash your own feet while envisioning you are cleaning the very feet of Jesus. During the foot washing, will you be silent, or will you pray? You may tell that person how much you love them.
