Finding Hope in Psalms for Living With Chronic Pain and Illness預覽
Through the Fire
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. —Psalm 73:26
It’s easy for discouragement and fear to take root when you live with chronic pain and chronic illness. Life is turned upside down, perhaps on a daily basis. Guilt creeps in when we realize we won’t be able to attend the event we’ve been waiting months, or even years, to attend, or we are unable to offer solace to our crying child. In fact, with our physical and emotional strength zapped, there are times we can barely comfort ourselves.
However, we can look to Psalm 73:26 for encouragement during those difficult times. Asaph, one of David’s worship leaders, penned this verse. He was discouraged, and his faith wavered. However, he sought the Lord and trusted in His unfailing love. The verse serves as a reminder that God is always there for us, too. Our strength can’t be purchased or easily replaced through human efforts. It is replenished only as a gift from God, where it shines through our weakness and pain.
On occasion, we will grow weary and lack confidence while trying to stay afloat with all life throws at us. Feelings of discouragement are normal. But it’s important to remember God has not abandoned us. He is taking on our struggles and pain.
Though our health may fail, thankfully, we do not have to depend on our own human faculties. We have the One Who is always strong, even when we are not. God may bring us to the end of our ropes in order for us to learn to depend on Him and His power, but He will never leave us. He will be there when we need Him. Our bodies are not perfect, but He is the One Who can help us take that next breath when we’re convinced it’s impossible. The Lord can assist us when we feel we can’t take another step. He is the true Source of our provision. He’ll give us the strength to persevere and endure the perilous journey known as chronic illness.
Lord, thank You for Your strength when I feel too weak and my journey seems too daunting to navigate alone. Amen.
