Real Hope: Service & Hospitality預覽
Different Priorities
Our society values being first, at the front, recognised and seen. This has become easier in recent years with the rise and use of technology and social media to gain notoriety. Perhaps I’m being pessimistic, but if we realistically look at humanity over the years it seems that nothing much in our nature has changed.
In today’s passage we see Jesus’ disciples arguing about who was the greatest. Jesus then speaks to them about what really is important. They saw that Jesus’ priorities are different.
Following Jesus is about service not greatness. It’s about caring, hospitality, quiet faithful work. Of course, some people who are Christians are well known and God has provided them gifts in leading, teaching and so on. That work is important.
But it is also about our attitude. Again, we look to Jesus. He came to serve, not be served (Luke 22:24–27) and to give His life so that we might live (John 3:16).
Service and hospitality are not about pride by doing something everyone can see, but about showing humility because you just get on and do it.

Service and Hospitality is part 1 of 3 looking at the Intersection Of Faith & Culture. It’s hard to live out our faith in a world where the Christian life seems to be counter to the culture we live in. But together we can help one another navigate those challenging situations where the people we’re seeking to minister to may not understand or may think we are just plain weird.
