Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your Children預覽
Scripture: Read Psalm 4 for the full context of this passage.
"Many are asking, Who can show us anything good? Let the light of your face shine on us, Lord." Psalm 4:6
The Psalms are a collection of songs and prayers. They are a source of comfort to our hearts in a chaotic world and remind us of God’s character. At the same time, so much of the Psalms feels like we are peeking into someone's diary.
In this passage, David feels overlooked, so he calls out to the Lord and talks to God about it. He asks God to "shine His face on him", which means to have favor or be mindful of him. He ends by reminding himself of the truth that in peace he can lie down for God alone keeps him safe.
We can do the same. If you or your children are feeling alone or overlooked, let them know they can bring these thoughts to God. Remind them to focus on the truth of who God is in the midst of their feelings. He is "El Roi" which in Hebrew means the God who sees. (Genesis 16:14) It is the name given to him by Hagar in the wilderness when she felt abandoned. When we focus on God's truth in the midst of our struggle, we find Hope in Him.
Pray: Lord, You know how often {your child's name} feels overlooked or alone. I pray he/she would come to you with those feelings. May the Light of your face shine upon {your child's name} today. Amen
Connect: Ask your child, "What is something I do that makes you feel seen?"
