Strong And Courageous: Leadership Lessons From The Book Of Joshua預覽
One time I joined my wife Tracy on a work trip to Las Vegas. I’m not much of a gambler, but I decided to have some fun with the $20 on Roulette. I had no strategy, but kept winning. I just kept playing because I didn’t have much to lose. After a while, others around the table started noticing my luck and began copying my moves – placing their chips on the same numbers as me. They didn’t know I had no idea what I was doing. I was one hand away from winning $1000, and just about everyone copied my next move. We ended up losing it all, and everyone got mad at me. The truth is, no one wants to follow someone who doesn’t know where they’re going.
The best leaders I know are confident. They make data-driven decisions and are decisive in their strategy. They trust their people. However, I know for me, I’ve only been able to place my confidence in those things when I know God is the one who is guiding us.
At the beginning of Joshua 6, God promised Joshua victory over Jericho. If Joshua followed God’s direction, they would win the battle. Leaders who continually go to the Lord for guidance on their organizational strategy can lead and be confident God is fighting for them. Whatever business or kingdom victory you are looking for, rest assured that you have it as you submit to God’s plan and authority.
When the market crashed in 2008, we were in the worst housing recession in the history of the U.S. In prayer, God gave Terry, our Chief Strategy Officer, an idea to go to developers and banks and relieve them of their inventory burden. They were so glad to do business with us that we gained access to thousands of lots during those seven recessional years. The recession could have stolen every ounce of confidence we had, but we chose to ask God for His creative wisdom to determine our strategy.
When we trust God and lean on His understanding rather than our own, He gives us the confidence we need to lead victoriously through the hard times.
Can you recall a time when God came through for you, your company, or someone you know?
