WINNING THE WAR OVER WORRY

Jesus states in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…”

Jesus discouraged the practice of worrying during his sermon on the mount recorded in Matthew 6.  It is okay to plan for tomorrow but worrying about tomorrow is not okay. Worrying about tomorrow blinds you to the blessings of today.

Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome loved Jesus. Even more,  they loved taking care of Jesus. After the death of Jesus, the women got up early in the morning on the first day of the week to anoint Jesus’ body. They bought spices knowing that this would be their last chance to care for Jesus.

They also knew they had three major obstacles that prevented them from completing this special task:

1. the stone at the tomb was large.

2. the tomb was sealed.

3. there were soldiers guarding the tomb.

Being fully aware of these obstacles, they made their way to the tomb. Nonetheless, when they got to the tomb, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away and the soldiers were no longer guarding the tomb. What they were worried about was not an issue when they arrived.

It is a common practice to worry about tomorrow’s issues. However, there is a possibility that the concerning issues may never actually happen. If they do, the events are rarely as bad as imagined. Furthermore, if fears are realized, worrying in advance rarely helps with coping with or solving them.

When you worry, you imply that the birds can trust God, the flowers can trust Him, but you are not sure you can. You can trust God in every situation. He is eager to share your burdens. Trust Him.
