I Am: 7 Keys to Unlock Your Future預覽
I Am Creative
Do you remember kindergarten, back when school consisted mostly of Play-Doh, games, and lunch? A successful day was one in which we got a gold star on our drawing and didn’t get in trouble for calling the kid beside us a poopyhead for taking our crayons.
Nostalgia may be coloring our view slightly here, but it does seem that one of the reasons most of us liked school more in those early years was that it was fun. And it was fun in large part because we were allowed to be creative.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up,” said Pablo Picasso. He was right. What once was part of our everyday lives can fall to the wayside under the onslaught of daily assignments and to-do list items.
As time goes on, we tend to forget that creativity is for all of us, not just the domain of children. We are creative in a thousand different ways, often without realizing it. Creativity is found in the desire and ability to make something new, to develop something that doesn’t exist, to express something that has not yet been spoken, or to solve problems that have no known solutions.
God Himself is creative—a fact made abundantly clear in the first chapters of the Bible. We are made in God’s image; we, like Him, are creative. He invented the concept, and He loves to see us create.
The beautiful aspect about our God-given creativity is that we are free to use our gifts to create, to develop, to produce, and to bless. There is no higher calling than using our gifts to glorify God and to bless others. And creativity is one of the primary ways we do that, regardless of whether that creative ability is applied to crafting a sermon, shooting a video, or building a house.
All is sacred and beautiful as we use the gifts the Creator gave us to produce beauty and to bless others. If creativity is God’s gift to us and a way we honor Him, then we can and should embrace it.
