Relationships According to the Book of Ruth

DAY 9: Be Upfront in your Emotions.

In Ruth 2:5-7, we read about Boaz and how he is inquiring about Ruth. He asks one of his servants, and they gladly tell him everything he needs to know about her. Boaz then decides to approach Ruth.

Boaz tells Ruth to only gather from his field, and he tells her to glean with his women servants. With this, we can see that Boaz wants to protect her from his own male servants and other men.

Boaz is very upfront about his emotions towards her. He approached her first, and then he approached his male servants by instructing them to leave her alone.

We tend not to share how we feel and the emotions we experience in our relationships. This confuses our relationships, and it has the potential to cause hurt. Boaz approached Ruth to inform her of what was about to happen. From the start, he was unequivocal. He communicated to her first, and then afterwards, he instructed his servants accordingly. She knew exactly that Boaz wanted to protect her. From their first interaction, he communicated clearly and honestly.

For any relationship, clear and honest communication is essential. All the emotions you experience in your relationships are worthy of sharing and should be shared.

The challenge I want to present you with is this: In what relationship do you need to express emotions that the other person is unaware of? Perhaps your relationship with God?
