Day 3
Tool 3: Pray Fervently
The more you trust God and the more you know His Word, the more you realize you need Him. Reliance on God requires communication with God. It’s a two-way transmission that never stops.
The godly dad understands the importance of praying fervently. You know this. You can’t trust God and know His Word but not stay close to Him through prayer.
Maybe you’ve forgotten how prayer works. Here’s a quick reminder: when you pray, does God hear you? Yes. When you pray, does God care about your situation? Yes. When you pray, do you get everything you ask for? Nope.
That last one is where we sometimes get off track. Prayer isn’t some heavenly vending machine we walk up to each time we need something. Request goes in, tasty treat comes out. We’re not promised every single thing we want, but we are guaranteed a peace that passes understanding.
Consider the last few messages you’ve been sending or receiving to God right now? Think of it like this: if you and God had a walkie-talkie, what would the last few messages sound like? Would it be, “Go again.” As in, “I didn’t understand, please repeat.” Or, would they be, “10-4.” as in, “Read you loud and clear.” Remember, God wants to hear your requests. Also, God wants us to listen to Him.
Depending on how your prayer life is going now, never forget you have this command from Paul in Philippians 4:6, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Pray early and often. Would you say you’re a dad who prays fervently?
