Choices, Choices, Choices

Finally, David’s day had come to be king! King Saul was out with his troops hunting to kill David when he took a break in a cave—the same cave where David and his men were hiding out. David sneaked up, pulled out his weapon, and … took a fabric sample from Saul’s clothes. Not only did David not kill Saul, he apologized to his men for even laying his hands on God’s anointed. He had a chance to take his destiny into his own hands, but instead he left it in God’s.

In the end, it was David’s choice not to kill Saul that actually began removing Saul’s blockage of David’s kingship. David’s integrity sung so loudly Saul could no longer put a deaf ear to the kingly destiny on David’s life. Had David not been so close to God’s heart, he could have interpreted this moment as one God provided for him to kill Saul and become king. Instead, he knew it was an opportunity to kill his own fleshly desires and crown God ruler. What pivotal, character-building opportunities are you facing? Are you looking to crown yourself or to crown your God?

Leader Tip: Leaders grow their character when they face a choice between right or wrong, and they choose right.
