Hallow Him: Halloween & Everyday預覽
Hallow Him- In ALL your ways ACKNOWLEDGE Him
Every October, Christian parents in the United States and other parts of the world struggle with the decision to celebrate Halloween. Halloween celebration involves eating candies, wearing costumes, knocking on doors for treats, and more. These activities are extremely exciting for children of all ages. However, the history of Halloween makes the celebration complicated and controversial.
Based on my experience and interaction with other parents, I would say that the pressure to participate in Halloween is greater when one becomes a parent. Children see all the fancy costumes and treats, and they hear their friends talk about Halloween night. They want to join the celebration. How can we say “no” to our children with Biblical reasons? How can we say “yes” knowing fully well that our “yes” models love and align with God’s will?
Turning to God first for answers is the only way we can make Biblically sound decisions. It is the only way we can peacefully say “yes” or “no” to our children’s complicated requests. When we turn to God for answers, we can also trust Him to help our children understand and give them a receptive heart. Turning to God first for answers is one way to acknowledge our dependence on God in parenting. Reading and meditating on God’s Word for direction are great ways to seek God for answers.
When I sought God’s heart concerning this year’s Halloween, several scriptures were impressed on my heart. As I meditated on the scriptures impressed on my heart, I was reminded that seeking God’s will is essential in every season and God’s will must not be assumed. We must not make fear-based decisions or assume something is God’s will just because it is good or reasonable.
Over the next few days, we will meditate on some scriptures and reflect on questions that can guide our daily decisions and yearly decision regarding Halloween.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Let the eyes of my heart be opened as I meditate on your Word. Help me to understand what your will is in my parenting choices and in all I do in Jesus name. Holy Spirit, help me to do the perfect will of the Father this season and every day of my life.
