The Heart of God Towards the Poor and Suffering

14 天中的第 9 天

When Convoy of Hope Co-Founder and President Hal Donaldson travelled to Calcutta, India to meet with Mother Teresa, he never expected what he encountered. He imagined he would hear deep truths that day, but was struck by her sincere desire to know more about him personally.

That day Mother Teresa asked Donaldson a profoundly impactful question: what are you doing to help the poor? It was at that point he made a life-altering decision to do more for others. What began as a pickup truck of groceries distributed by three brothers in Los Angeles is now a global organization serving hundreds of thousands of people each year.

What can you do? Each of us, no matter who we are or what we have to offer can do something to rescue the weak and needy. God has placed you in a position and given you unique opportunities to serve others who have desperate needs. You, friend, have something in your hands that only you have to offer and it’s up to you to give it.

Maybe it’s covering the groceries of the family seemingly in need in line behind you at the market. Perhaps your profession could provide valuable services to someone who can’t afford them; offer them at no cost. Or do you know a family on the other side of town that needs a ride to church every week.

There are opportunities wrapped up in every day, but if we are not willing to ask, “what can I do,” we will pass up each of these opportunities and miss how God wants to use us to rescue the weak and needy.

Today, make it a point to do something kind for another. Ask God, “what can I do?”
