Routed in Prayer: A Devotional for Those Starting New Jobs預覽
Day 10: From the outside in
Express Route
Whatever your new role, it’s likely that at some point you’ll find yourself representing your organisation to others. Psalm 97 is clear that ‘the LORD reigns’ in every situation. What might it look like to have grace and love as your highest aim? Ask God for His inspired wisdom, praying for opportunities to surprise and delight those you meet.

Reflect: One of the most exciting parts of a job is the opportunity to represent your organisation to those outside it. Whether that’s through a uniform you wear, sales you make, or meetings you take part in, it’s exciting – and perhaps a little daunting – to have the responsibility of representing a brand.
As you prepare to step outside in your uniform, to enter that meeting for the first time, or to greet your customer, what values are you seeking to promote? Whose authority are you under? What is your ultimate endgame? There are myriad answers to these questions, with so much dependent on circumstances, roles, and expectations. But there is one thing that remains above all of those factors, and it’s here in Psalm 97: ‘The LORD reigns, let the earth be glad.’
Going out into the world as Christian workers, we have the exciting opportunity to reflect the values of God’s Kingdom in our daily interactions. What would it look like for us to seek to minister grace and love to whoever we meet – whether in a business meeting or in the queue for the train? How could we speak up for truth and justice as we seek to sell what we have to people? How can we model godly character to both our first and our fiftieth patient or client of the week?
Ultimately, as we venture out, unsure of how we will be perceived and hoping for a particular result, we can be sure of one thing: the Lord reigns. And of that we can be glad. May all those we meet rejoice.
Pray: Consider your feelings around representing your organisation externally. Brainstorm some ideas of ways to surprise and delight those you meet or come into contact with. Ask God for opportunities to enact these ideas.
