After you have completed today’s reading from the Bible, we encourage you to set aside a moment to listen along to the guide provided as we pray and allow God to speak to us through His Word.

1 John 2:5-6 says, “But if anyone obeys His Word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.”

Because God is love, obedience to Him and true love go hand in hand. Do you ever find that either obeying God’s Word or the seemingly more simple idea of love for Him comes more easily to you? Why do you think that could be?

For many people, the idea of obedience can conjure up feelings of inadequacy or fear of unjust discipline. But with God, the call to obedience begins and ends with perfect love. Ask Him to show that to you now.

What are some things that you could do today to be obedient to your Heavenly Father? What might He be asking you to set aside? And what might He asking you to take up today and respond to today?

The invitation to live as Jesus lived may seem unattainable, but it’s God’s Spirit that enables us to live that sacrificial life. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you. Ask Him to give you strength and power to live like Jesus today.

“Our Father we thank You for Your gift of Your Son. We thank You that in Him we know what it is to truly love You and live for You. Help us today, by Your Spirit, to live as Jesus did. To bring glory to Your name, to live and love like He did. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
