Day Three: A Big Dream From God Requires Vision
Because your Dream is so far beyond what you have experienced before and because it is so large, you know that you don’t know how to do it! You have to depend on God in times like these. You don’t have the money, you don’t have enough skills or talents, you don’t have the experience, you don’t even have a team with the talents to carry it out. Nor do you even have one customer who wants to buy your dream, or hire your services, or call you to perform your dream.
Well, if that description I just gave you about dreams sums up you and the pursuit of your dream right now, I want you to take heart. Have courage. Stay strong. Don’t throw in the towel. Know that you are on the right path. Because your dream (if it is the one or ones given to you by God Himself) will always be bigger than you. And because it is, you’re going to want to rely on Him and His ways, principles, strength and wisdom to guide you to it.
Take a moment to read the passage found in Genesis 37:1-11.
Then, read Genesis 44:14.
Personal Reflection:
1. It took 23 years from the time Joseph had his dream to the time it was fulfilled. What does Joseph’s example teach us with regard to the speed in which our dreams might come about?
2. What were some of the things Joseph went through during this 23-year period? In what way did God use that to develop him for living out his dream and destiny? (If you are unfamiliar with the story of Joseph, please read Genesis 37-50).
3. Has there been a time-lag between when you first felt the inkling of your dream and today?
a. If yes, have you experienced any development during that time? What lessons have you learned?
4. How do you feel about delays in accomplishing your dream? Do you view delays as “failures” or simply “detours” on your path to your destiny? Explain your reason behind your answer.
As you seek to discover and live out your dream, you are going to come to understand that a dream from God is always bigger than what you can do on your own. You will need to depend on Him to pull it off. Which is why you also need to have a critical quality tied to it in order to accomplish your dream: Vision.
Anyone who has ever accomplished anything of significance has this one quality: They have VISION. What is vision? Vision is the ability to see beyond what you can see in the present in order to see a mental image of what the future could be like.
Less than 10% of leaders clearly lead with a vision. That’s why those who can grasp this all-important quality and own it as an integral part of their dream will be all the more likely to accomplish it.
You’ve probably heard the story of the man who stood beside the widow of Walt Disney at the opening of one of their grandest parks and he sighed and said, “Oh, how I wish Walt could see this.”
To which she replied, “He did, that’s why it’s here.”
What you see before there is anything to be seen powerfully impacts what will be seen in the future. Now, this can be negative or it can be positive. You can envision a disaster, failure or a mess. And, most likely, that’s exactly what you will experience. Or you can envision your dream in all of its grandest scale and let that vision guide you (and those around you) toward its completion.
Vision is the cornerstone of living out your very big dream. Embrace your vision and ask God to clarify your vision as you dream BIG for Him to advance His kingdom.
