His Forgiveness Is Big Enough

How often do we truly reveal our hearts to other people? Most of us find it difficult to be ourselves because we would rather be popular and successful than risk the rejection of our true selves. In our culture, real self-disclosure is rare; when we encounter genuine sincerity, we take notice. This rarity is evident in the significance we place on a person's last words. We expect that when facing death, a person will say something profoundly real and sincere.

In the first statement from the Cross, Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). Because of Jesus's first statement, we know that our sins can be completely forgiven. If Jesus can pray for the forgiveness of those men who cursed Him, spat upon Him, beat Him, and ultimately crucified Him, how can we be arrogant enough to think His forgiveness is not big enough or strong enough for us?

God's forgiveness is big enough because of the limitless love, immeasurable grace, and unwavering faithfulness of God. He promised us that whosoever would come to Him, confess their sins, and repent would find forgiveness, and God always keeps His promises.

Prayer: God, thank You that Your forgiveness is big enough for me to be completely forgiven. Amen.

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name (Acts 10:43).

Why the Cross?

“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (I Corinthians 1:18, NIV). The Cross of Christ is the central event of history, but it has also been a source of controversy and offense. In this stirring devotional series, Michael Youssef inspires our appreciation for the offending, redeeming, and very personal work Christ accomplished on the cross. These messages will ground believers in the basis of their faith while guiding unbelievers to a better understanding of the death of Christ on the cross.
