LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Moms are always asking me the best way to teach their children to follow after God’s heart.

I believe that the best way to teach children — or anyone, for that matter — is to lead by example. As moms we should always ask ourselves the question, “Do my actions line up with my words?”

  • If you want your child to love well, then you need to love well.
  • If you want your child to have a generous heart and be compassionate toward others, then you need to serve others and love them even during the rough times.
  • If you want your child to be honest, then you need to be honest in every aspect of your life.
  • If you want your child to be walking with the Lord on a daily basis, then you need to be walking with the Lord and learning from him each day.

I shouldn’t be asking my children to do anything that I am not already doing myself. God needs to be a priority in my life if I want Him to be a priority in my child’s life.

Don’t make the mistake of believing that your children are not paying attention — they are. Children are always watching you. They are noticing how you treat others in the grocery store, the mall, or in traffic. They are taking notes, whether you see it or not. Is your life worth taking notes on? I know that is a tough question . . . but it’s one that you should ask often.
