Worship Through the Psalms预览
In John 4:23, Jesus said, “the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.”
There is a desire in the heart of the Father, a type of people He is seeking. He is seeking true worshipers, not those who worship Him out of religion or from the flesh, but those who will worship Him as He is, in spirit and in truth. In other words, He is looking for authentic, real lovers of God. David is one such person that most certainly comes to mind when we look for examples of this type of worshiper in the Bible. Whether playing his harp as a young shepherd in a field full of sheep or dancing wildly through the streets of Jerusalem with his kingly robes falling to the wayside, David was one who worshiped the Lord in a way that pleased Him and connected to His heart. Called by the Lord as a man after His own heart, David knew how to touch the deep places of the heart of God. He knew the importance of worshiping and communing with the Lord. We see all throughout the Psalms David being honest with the Lord about what he was experiencing and feeling through many life and death situations, emotional turmoil, successes, and moral failings. In the midst of it all, he is still remembered for his heart after the Lord.
As lovers of God, it should be our desire to be one like David, one whose heart is fervently seeking to worship the Lord and be in His Presence. As you spend time with the Lord today, express all of your heart to Him. Be open and vulnerable as you commune with Him in prayer. He isn’t looking for another religious worshipper who will not be vulnerable with Him. He desires the real you. Let this be your worship today, to present yourself fully in surrender to Him just as you are.
Over the next few days, we’ll take a look at some of David’s writings in the Psalms as well as various models of worship to help us learn more about fulfilling the Father’s desire of being worshippers in spirit and in truth no matter what season or situation we find ourselves in.
