WWJD

In the 90s the phrase ‘What would Jesus do?’ (WWJD) became a worldwide phenomenon among Christian youth in the form of a small wristband they wore. But long before, Charles Spurgeon used this phrase in one of his sermons and before that, references to the spiritual discipline and practice of the imitation of Christ go back as far as Paul’s letters. Many agree we should imitate Christ. The question of how we do that has been much debated.

In recent years, the world has been confronted by situations we had never imagined. Some challenges have been compounded by hundreds of years of history and some by technological advancements and medical breakthroughs that came long after Jesus walked this earth. So the answer to the question ‘What would Jesus do?’ seems harder than ever. I believe answering it is less about scouring the scriptures for a similar scenario and more about our ongoing relationship with God.

I am a twin, and my relationship with my sister is the longest relationship I have ever had on this earth. We literally hung out before we were born. We grew up together, shared joys, sorrows, and everything in between. We love each other deeply and speak regularly. I am pretty confident I know how my sister will react in most situations because I know her.

The invitation into a personal relationship with God remains one of the most precious aspects of our faith. It will continue to transform and sustain you for the whole of your life. How do we know what Jesus would do? Well, it starts with how well we know who He is.
