God’s glory vs. human sinfulness

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
(Isaiah 6:3)

The Bible records how the Lord God reveals Himself to us humans. He does so in various ways: by speaking through prophets, by visions or by a voice from a cloud, to name a few examples. He wants to communicate with us and to have a relationship with us. But, every encounter makes it clear that there is a distance between God and man.

The Lord is holy. He is highly exalted. We worship Him because He is our Creator. But what creates this distance most of all is our sin that cannot coexist with His holiness and glory. When Isaiah sees something of God's glory in a vision, he cries out: “Woe is me! For I am lost … for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” (Isaiah 6:5).

The Bible uses the Hebrew word כָּבוֹד and the Greek word δόξα when something of the heavenly radiance and majesty of God becomes visible on earth. As we follow those key words through the Bible, we discover how even humans can share in God's glory and be in His glorious presence. Will you read more with us?
