Royals Part II: Divided Kingdom预览
End of the Line
Ahab could almost be thought of as the anti-David. Where David’s heart sought the Lord, Ahab’s heart was opposed to God. Where David loved God and his prophets, Ahab hated God and his prophets. Everything Ahab did served himself, but David, though flawed, strove to serve the Lord. The result is that while God promises that David’s line will endure forever, Ahab’s line is completely cut off.
We see God meticulously wiping away every hint of Ahab’s imprint on the world. Just as we see how God deals with these earthly representations of good and evil, so God deals with the ultimate powers of good and evil. We live in the time between Ahab’s downfall and the ultimate destruction of everything he stood for. Sin and death were defeated on the Cross and we await the time when they will be completely wiped away from the face of the Earth.
By now you might be struggling with the constant waves of brutality and graphic stories in the history of the kings. It can leave us feeling the weight of all the sin in the world but while this story is graphic it is actually full of hope. It points forward to the time when God will meticulously wipe all of creation clean and bring into being the new heavens and the new earth. Where there is no more sin or suffering, no more tears, and no more death.
