Gifted to Serve预览
Corinth was a popular seaport and home to many diverse cultures. Those different people groups each believed their world view to be superior to the others. The root word, sophos or sophia, relates to wisdom and occurs over twenty times in this passage. This section of Paul’s letter contrasts the wisdom of the world with the wisdom of God. Charles Spurgeon wrote, “Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.” The original sin was Adam and Eve’s belief that they had the right to be like God. It has been said that every sin since has been rooted in that original sin.
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15–17
