Legacy Leadership预览
Moses is considered one of the great leaders of Bible times. The miracles and events that took place around Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt are too numerous to list in a short devotional, but you probably already know the story from the book of Exodus.
Although we could focus on the incredible signs and wonders that occur during this time, there is more to the narrative than just the exodus of a great nation. This story reminds us that God’s kingdom's purposes for the nation of Israel started many years prior to Moses being born.
When Moses encounters God in a burning bush in the desert, God says this statement, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:6)
In that critical moment of Moses’ life, when God is requiring Moses to step up as a mighty leader, you might think that God would have commenced His commission with, “I am the God of Moses”. But God places Moses into the context of His eternal purpose. God reminds Moses (and each one of us) that there is an ongoing, eternal nature of leadership and legacy.
God had made a covenant with Abraham many years earlier, saying “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2) When God speaks to Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, He is essentially saying:
- The commission I am giving you is part of something infinitely greater.
- The deliverance of my nation that you are about to witness is because of a covenant that I made 400 years ago.
- Your commission is the prophetic fulfilment of three generations of legacy.
The story of Moses is not the beginning of the story. Moses becomes the first generation of a refreshed apostolic covenant, originally made with Abraham.
In the same way, as Moses is part of a covenant, God intends for each of us to be a part of an apostolic covenant. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a personal revelation of your own individual place in your God-intended line of legacy.
