Fruit of the Spirit预览
Gentleness
The word “gentleness” might sound a bit soft or weak to some of us, not necessarily like an attractive characteristic. But that is not what this word really means. Jesus calls himself “gentle”, but this didn’t prevent him from rebuking a storm, driving out demons, or opposing the religious leaders.
A gentle person is like a tamed horse: he has not lost his strength, but this strength is now under the control of God’s Spirit instead of his own fiery temper and sinful desires. This becomes apparent, for example, when he has to confront somebody who is caught in any transgression. In such a situation, Paul says, “you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness” (Galatians 6:1). A confrontation is necessary, not because we are against this person, but because we want the best for him – and that shows in a gentle and loving confrontation, not in ignoring the offense.
Gentle people (also translated as “the meek”) are blessed by Jesus. He even promises that “they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).
Do you know gentle people?
