Light and Darkness预览
In God’s new world, Jesus will be its lamp
Yesterday, we read how God’s presence in the temple was symbolized by a burning lamp. This temple was destroyed centuries ago. A new one was built later, but that second temple has also been destroyed. Thus, the symbol of God’s presence was lost...
In the book of Revelation, the apostle John gets an outlook into the future. In a vision he sees the new Jerusalem, a holy city coming down from heaven. This is a vision of the new earth that God will create at the end of time. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, will live there forever.
John notices that there is no temple in this city. Why not? Because God Himself is present there. His presence will be so great that it will flood the city with abundant light. God will shine so brightly that there is no need for any other light. “And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light” (Revelation 22:5).
Are you looking forward to this new world? Do you long to live in God’s presence forever?
读经计划介绍
Immediately in the first chapter of the Bible, we read how God created light. And further on in the Bible, light is often used as a metaphor for God’s domain as opposed to the domain of sin and death. Jesus even calls Himself “the Light of the world”. Light and darkness thus have an important place in the Bible. This reading plan presents a selection of verses about this topic.
